How to Remove Glue and Residue from your Jar
Clean any food residue out of the jar. Then pour boiling water over the jars in a large bowl. Let sit so the heat can loosen the label glue. Once the water has cooled enough to touch, peel off the labels.
There are many ways to remove glue residue;
Rub with olive oil
Nail Polish Remover (aka Acetone)
Bar Keepers Friend Powder and a small bit of water to create a paste
I also highly recommend a rubber scraper to assist in this process.
Why Glass over Bamboo, Plastic or Silicone?
Bamboo Lids are a great option for storing crafts or dry goods, but in my experience if you want to wash the lid, or use the jar for food storage the bamboo lids just don’t last very long and/or can develop mold.
I personally try to limit my plastic consumption where I can and in this instance found a happy compromise in the glass lids. No shade to those who do!
I prefer the glass lids for this reason. The rubber gaskets are easy to replace in the instance that you’re using them for food storage a lot. (The rubber gasket can degrade and potentially begin to harbor bacteria just like the seal on mason jars.)
